along came polly

HELLO!!!!!!

its been a while i know, im sorry. juggling study, painting, prac, essays and baby - its exhausting stuff!

anyway, enough complaining already. here are some artworks for you.

most of these pieces are 10x12" so they're pretty small. i figure i'll sell them at the exhibition for $15 or $20 each - something uni students can afford if they like it enough. most of these are just doodles on painted canvas.. i just wanted to do something fun!

tried to make them colourful, can be hard when paint stocks are low.. most paintings can turn out looking just like the last you did in that scenario!!

of course im always open for suggestions.. what you as the viewer would want to see in a series like this, maybe colours or more circular designs (i call these planets - just for the sheer shape!)

as i said, its hard juggling so many things at once, but when i find the time for painting, i feel fresh and ready to conquor anything. it is what i want to do with my life more than anything.. please come along for the opening of the august exhibit to support all local brisbane artists showing their works, many, for the first time! cheers for now, kare.

CBD Gallery Brisbane

So, we have decided to exhibit with the
CBD Gallery, Brisbane in August. Gallery space is pretty cheap and we're all happy with any exposure we can get, obviously!! Here are some pieces I have been working on..

"Apple Tea"

acrylic paint on canvas

2006.

I wanted colours in this piece to resemble the feelings and thoughts of a person relaxing, powerful emotions and colours. All the stress is untangling and easing away.

"Greetings and Salutations"
acrylic paint on canvas

2006.

I've always been fascinated when people greet one another for the first time. What's in a greeting? Do people genuinly mean it when they say "it was nice meeting you?" Alot of mixed feelings come to mind, I wanted to capture that.

"Full Moon - Crazy Antics"
acrylic on canvas
2006.

Crazy city when the full moon appears. Ever heard the line "It's a full-moon, all the crazies will be out tonight." - An old saying meaning everything strange happens only on a full moon. I feel a great deal of energy from a full-moon, hence this piece; energy I needed to burn.

exhibition dates..

There are currently four of us, trying to decide on particular dates for our first group exhibition. We are possibly looking at August 2006.

Alot has to be discussed and arranged at the moment and details are etchy. Instead of asking for nothing for my brithday just gone, I am really wishing I had asked for more art supplies instead! But, on with the show.

For this exhibition I need to set some personal and spiritual goals. I've only been waiting 4-5 years to find a good group of artists who would exhibit their works with mine.

We are going against the grain. Galleries in town want $800 minimum, per artist who has never exhibited, before accepting them to host their own exhibition in a space no bigger than my bathroom.

This is our dream. A travelling exhibition, perhaps a few times each year.
  1. To vent all of our creative frustration.
  2. To challenge mainstream artists with our paintbrushs and canvas'.
  3. To encourage affordable exhibitions for us artists who are poor.
  4. To bring creativity, enlightment and entertainment into your lives via artworks.
  5. To have fun, dance in the good vibes and smile in the sunshine.
Come join us!

More details to come.....

Tree-Moon Series

I liked the way this sketch came out, so I have done 3 sketches on it, all 30x30cm.

Here is the first one, charcoal on white card.

Here is the second sketch, yellow pastel on white card. This sketch, I feel, still needs some more work.

And the third, in white pastel on black card.

This one is possibly my favourite out of the three. I think the white on black made it more-so effective that what I achieved with the other two.

Nature : Wild-Sunflowers.

4. Nature : Wild-Sunflowers.

Rough, though I think it's a piece that could work well as a painting. Different textures and mediums would be fun to mess around with too!

Nature : Summer-Tree.

3. Nature : Summer-Tree.

The 3rd sketch today.

Not so sure on this one as yet. Think if I use it as a basis for a painting I will have to do some work on the layout first.

World : Tree-Moon.

2. World : Tree-Moon.

Another sketch at the park..

Thinking this may also be a great start for a series painting, not sure if i would stencil it or not, though is deffinately something I would love to look into for the future!

woman : face-moon.

1. Woman : Face-Moon.

I did this sketch at the part this afternoon. I wanted to represent a soul with the sun, a connection deep within. Sun makes me warm and it is an important system to our galaxy. Really wanting to paint this, maybe as a series of different colours or textures.

Sketching

I have an average blog, where i sometimes store my thoughts. I thought, why not have a blog specifically for my artworks too? I don't sketch as often as artsists should, so excuse my lack of perception in most of my sketches. I should really be clever, and make a pact with myself to do atleast one sketch each week, though being arty and un-organised most of the time - I know that chances of me sticking to that are pretty minimal.

So if I can't sketch, I'll try writing something instead. Deal? Okay then. Glad we got that sorted. Now it's time to clean the house.
